9:58a Bloody Hearts, Hyo edition redux, now with subs! Gaiz, when did the other thread get so long? ( My bias, let me show you; or, HyoYeon is my woobie ) ( Other SH links and things to make you happy ) ( Morning Musume makes me ponder sexuality in Asian pop culture. Seriously. ) You can't tell me that the women of Kaba Modern aren't sexy doing what they do. The guys are damn sexy workin' it too. This is the type of audience reception I crave for Hyo, that active connection and appreciation from the crowd. (Anyone know if the ABDC KB group goes by a different name because KB is more of the name of the UC Irvine team, no?) Hyo needs to hit up the CA crews like Kaba and Beat Freaks. Take a nice long vacation and get her dance on. She'll get popping, locking, breakdancing, boogaloo and more from BF and isolations from Kaba. My dream. <3 There are some crazy ass East Coast crews I'd love her to meet too. . . . I get through these clips and I just go damn.

12:05a Strong Heart, Hyo edition I knew I should have avoided the comments, but Hyo is basically a "charity" case now in SNSD? SM is being generous to her, all things considered? Thanks, SNSD fans, way to make Hyo feel so included as a contributor in the group! Man, it's so hard to believe that she might have had thoughts about leaving! I can't imagine why! I don't give a rat's ass if the article is exaggerated in order for "Strong Heart" to get viewers; it does not preclude the fact that there is a real problem re: promoting Hyo. So Hyo should only be a dancer? Christ, she'd be better off joining a dance crew, then, that would really push her talents to the limit and allow her to grow as the dancer that she obviously only is. /rage Goddamn that killed my good mood. I felt better when I saw no one talking about it. c: emilyk91@soompi; DC , as-photo9 | Hyo's gonna shoot herself in the foot, isn't she? But how amazing does she look here?! Woke up calmer, but not necessarily feeling better. "Strong Heart" HyoYeon cut. I initially skipped the talking part to see the dancing part because I thought it would be hard to watch, but Hyo is for the most part composed here. She was trying to speak so carefully. I <3 maknae for reaching out and taking Hyo's hand while she was stepping down to the stage. I wonder if she did the whole concert "Tipsy" solo for the show, since we see a "cut" leading into it. Goddamn. Yes. This is . . . the Hyo I always want to see dance. But, Eun JiWon, could you look any more bored in the background? Go ahead, tell me your heart has changed re: favorite SNSD member. I'll understand. It's all happened before. Also, dear SH PD, I don't want to see people's reactions, I want to see her dance. I'll react all on my own, thanks. I'mma also send some <3s out to LeeTeuk in the background who appears to have been shouting words of encouragement. Psy turned around to say something to him at some point. SeoHyun cut. This girl is truly 4D. Don't borrow money from maknae. She will hold you to the very cent. TaeYeon cut. Damn, girl got to speak twice over the course of one recording. More of TaeYeon's subtle(?) boasting going on: how many guys have confessed to her? So many she can't count them on her fingers! I'll wait for subs on this one. TaeYeon: "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - only 36 seconds. Silis says that they'll release a full cut of it since there were so many requests. ETN News Concert Coverage - toebeast subbed this way fast, and we get a peek at Hyo's solo! I'm so curious to see how she redid the "Genie" choreo but no cigar here, as far as I can tell. She looks sooooo tiny in that outfit, drowning in that jacket. So now we have a little bit more of "Tipsy," as well as the interlude bit between "Genie" and "Tipsy" in the audio? Hrm. LOL @ TaeYeon wanting to go to a sauna, but I would agree with SooYoung: massage time! They all need massages. Massages are the bomb. I didn't fully realize how awesome massages are until like two, three years ago, but they are awesome, peoples. You know . . . rewatching the SH Hyo clip, when Hyo finishes up her talk on that forced out ". . . hae yo" and she's being so together and composed but you can tell it's hard for her to get the words out--she looks so vulnerable that I just kind of want to hug her for a long, long time. Hyo . . . has aegyo. I've thought this for a while, that her camera shyness gives her this very vulnerable camera presence. Have you heard Kim JaeDong's tone when he used to ask her questions on SGB? He sounded like he was talking to a child the way he would prompt her in a lilting way. It's almost condescending, but the way Hyo answers has that same controlled tightness in her voice where you can hear both her efforts to speak clearly and her uncertainty. I'm not sure if it's aegyo or just outright woobie-ness. Like, "Oh my God, you are adorable and I want to put you in my pocket where I can shield you from the cruel, cruel world." And then, of course, she starts dancing and that vulnerability disappears, but, gah, when she's talking here I want to huggle her.

9:22p SNSD Concert Dance Battle Is it blasphemousstrange that at the moment I'm more curious to see a full concert Dance Battle clip than one of Hyo's solo? I really want to know what SooYoung's solo piece looks like because I think this set exemplifies pretty much how SM is pushing each of their "dancers." I asked myself why I was surprised to see YoonA's piece and then I realized I was expecting her to be more in line with YuRi's chosen technique--but no. And in the same vein, it began to make more sense to me as to why YuRi is so heavily leaning on waves and sexy moves: she doesn't want to be in HyoYeon's shadow. It's smart. HyoYeon is so associated with "powerful" dance now that to go that route is to risk always being compared to HyoYeon; likewise, Hyo in the dance battle wasn't poaching on that "sexy" territory at all (at least not in the same way YuRi was; I found Hyo sexy but that's a different discussion). YoonA was doing the same thing in her own way, trying to avoid the more looming shadows of SNSD's more prominent dancers and their styles (I'm avoiding the word "better" because it's too subjective D:). Isn't this her first time really getting a solo dance piece up in here? ( Dance, dance! ) Comments now also include discussion of Hyo's (possibly) upcoming talk on "Strong Heart." Feel free to choose your translation source: K Bites, allkpop, SSF. Interestingly, K Bites and allkpop are more in agreement in that each intimates that Hyo's thinking was more along the lines of taking place post-debut, while SSF's translation makes it seem like a pre-debut thing. Me, I'm putting my money on post-debut feelings. Somewhere, somehow, this post got out of hand. 9:53p [Pimpage] A Fractured Fairytale: A sasusaku AU anthology I think I've been in Naruto detox for the last two years now. Possibly longer. . . I stopped following the manga, mostly to preserve my sanity, because I couldn't stand the wait in between chapters. Then at some point, it became the norm to not read it. =) And yes, if you want me to be honest, my obsession with sasusaku was probably a factor in that falling out. *cough* Anyway, one of the reasons why I have never completely divorced myself from the series is because there are certain people who won't let me. XD So this is mikochan_noda  and hanabi_no_ai's  project. They're about done, I think, and have given the go sign to start pimpage. And so humbly I do that. A Fractured Fairytale: A sasusaku AU anthology I regained sasusaku love through AU fic writing. Yes! There is no longer that feeling of futility present in writing canon. Woe! LOL as evidence, I actually attempted 4 stories for their projects. Managed to finish 2 of them, and that's pretty good, considering my track record lately. So yep, those stories absorbed a considerable amount of muse juice. XD mikochan_noda  also  posted an interesting sample story. . . and so the snake fell in love with the slug by 2 mystery fracturedtales writers ohohoho~ Please do check it out. 9:36a SNSD 1st Concert SPAZZ POST GAIZ I'M READING ALL ABOUT THE CONCERT AND I'M SO SAD I COULDN'T HAVE BEEN THERE!!!! ( Vids & Fancams ) I am getting all my links from the super fast people over at soompi, so if you're looking for links, head there! Our awesome HYJ's (juneunhae) fan account is broken up into pieces over at soompi: 1 2 3 4 (Hope I didn't miss a piece in there. HYJ is getting slammed with questions on soompi. D:) Too many things to spazz about in her account, but my brain had to stop and laugh at the thought of pimp!Hyo: "Anyway the video showed all the girls putting on make up/getting ready etc. and then they walked on the runway. 10:44a [1556] Huge sigh of relief Exams are over; thanks be to St. Thomas More, patron saint of lawyers. (Is there a patron saint for law students? Is it blasphemous for a Mormon to mention a Catholic saint?) Overall I feel pretty decent about the experience. Last night I had a good school dream, for once, in which I not only finished the 1st Amendment test first but also climbed up the rocky crag of the Supreme Court bench to be first in my class. My professor, a bizarre mix of Professor Anderson-Jones, Robin McKinley, and my favorite elementary school teacher (Ms. Mell), was very congratulatory. I have the weirdest hunger for praise. So after I finished my paper last night my roommates and I all celebrated the end of exams with a nice quiet little party. :) We had frozen pizza for dinner, and then we went to the grocery store for Redbox and junk food. Ice cream, clementines, chips and bean dip, and Chex Mix make a very satisfactory accompaniment to Casino Royale, and we all had fun oogling Daniel Craig and having absolutely no idea how poker is played. And now I've just finished packing for Michigan! My cousin's driving Ruth, Jordan, Elise and me to the airport; we leave at 2 p.m. and arrive in Chicago at 6:05, which means we've got a good chance of getting home sometime around midnight. So excited for family and Christmas! See you all on the other side. ;) current mood: excited current music: "You Know My Name" | Chris Cornell

Unexpected early Christmas gift? And iacus let me know that silis' trans of one of the ChinChin Girls' Chit Chat" corner has talk about Hyo--I'd heard about this particular talk, I think silis had made a side comment about it in soompi. Indecisive!Hyo strikes an unsuspecting Sunny in a burst of shopping for very feminine accessories. =D Huh, what I hadn't expected was that she spends so much time writing in her diary. I didn't even know she kept one. The TaeSun roommates are cute. =D

4:45p Strong Heart [raw + subs] I'mma wait on subs before I comment on Strong Heart (Raw SNSD cut: 1 2) to confirm what I think went down with the whole Leader TaeYeon story. But if my poor understanding of the story proves to be true, I'mma LOL. I will say that I wish people realized that Hyo has an eye-smile. She was very smiley here and so that eye-smile of hers was emerging, especially when she laughed at her own attempt to explain that it was a misunderstanding. (Aside: Every time Hyo says 부담 [burden] I always flashback to her talking about feeling burdened appearing on a radio show alone on "Lee Jaeryong & Jungeun's Good Morning" [02.24.2009], complete with her "Bam! Bam!" hand motions and sound effects. It's just the way she says it, with like super emphasis, that makes it stick out in a sentence. Notice, too, that she was motoring through her sentences. There's always a marked contrast between slower, clearer public speakers like TaeYeon and SeoHyun and then Hyo's rapidfire delivery.) Also, LOL at maknae's conclusion: "I'll leave it to the unnies," and then Shin BongSun interpretted: "I'm the youngest, so I don't care," which, of course, prompted SeoHyun to whine in protest. Also LOL at Eun JiWon nominating himself as the leader and then HoDong's suggestion that they hold a "1-minute talk" on the show to clear things up. And here's a random thought: SeoHyun said on "ShimShim Tapa" [07.09.2009] that Hyo is "motherly" when she wakes her up. But one of the complaints Hyo lodged against SeoHyun on "Intimate Note" [08.28.2009] was that Seobaby sets her alarm for 7AM to get in some reading time and thus disturbs Hyo's sleep. So . . . who gets up earlier than who on a regular basis here? (Completely unrelated, but since just_keep_on and I were discussing what we have [not] learned since getting into the SNSD fandom, I just looked and saw that Oh my God, I have 175 posts tagged under "SNSD." 3:44p [1555] 801(d)(2)(A) is my favorite Federal Rule of Evidence So I just finished a 4-hour Evidence exam in 1 hour and 45 minutes. I'm pretty sure I was the first person to leave the exam room. I'm hoping this is a good sign (though it could very well be a very bad one). It's multiple choice, so at least I know I answered all the questions. :) But I probably studied harder for this class than for any of the others, and felt better about it than any of the others, so... Who knows? Maybe I'll get the 4.0. Hopefully I'll get above the 3.3! Now it's time to buckle down and study 1st Amendment. I feel like a sort of have a handle on this stuff, but a hundred years of 1st Amendment jurisprudence is a lot more complicated than the 67 Federal Rules of Evidence and all their component subparts. And once I take this exam, on Wednesday morning, it's back to the desk to write my Negotiations paper and work on my Education Law Journal case note... But Friday afternoon I'm out of here, come hell or high water (but please, not snow!), and Friday night I'll be in Michigan! current mood: accomplished

10:13p Ilaria & Resident Evil? Ilaria Graziano (and Yoko Kanno) music spam! I've been listening to her hoping for some creative inspiration, but more often than not I get distracted by paying too much attention to the songs instead of relegating them to mindlessly looped background music. I do believe all of these come from anime OSTs: Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, GitS SAC 2nd Gig, GitS SAC Solid State Society, Cowboy Bebop, Wolf's Rain. As a consequence, the songs are all over the place in tempo, tone, and some mixing up with genres. Ilaria (oddly, I always think of her by her first name) sings in a mix of Italian and English (sometimes Engrish). Hot. ( Musical selection after the jump ) Also: Resident Evil 5 Alternative Edition (TGS 09 Trailer) - I'm trying really hard to figure out why the Engrish "Alternative" is in the title. This isn't a different "alternative" story line from RE5, just a background chapter. I'm also still trying to figure out how becoming a super soldier made Jill go from brunette to blonde, but then again I've been wondering why Capcom had to make the change to action-third-person-shooter that they did with RE4. =( The old RE games are very close to my heart since my bro and I spent many an hour bonding over them: he'd play, I'd watch. But, you know, I will say that although Jill has never had a consistent voice actress, I am a fan that they go with lower-voiced women. Oh, Jill, you master of unlocking! Also, damn Capcom, but I'll probably have to play Resident Evil: Darkside Chronicles because, um, Resident Evil 2 was epic, peoples, EPIC! I'm always a little heartbroken to think that they didn't remake it the way they did with RE1, which was a beautiful (and creepy--OMG, Lisa Trevor!) game with the way they redid the Spencer Mansion. But who's tagging along with Leon, back in the days when he was scrawny and a n00b lol, in this trailer? Is that supposed to be Claire's voice? D: D: D: LOL, I love how the rail shooters disregard the stories of the original games: Jill and Chris not splitting up, Leon and Claire not being separated. "CLAIRE! LEON!" *FLAMES OF BURNING IMPOSING SEPARATION* Wait, how are they going to work Ada and Sherry into this? I--what? Ew, Mr. X! Whoa, memories. I'm assuming this won't cover Code Veronica, so does that mean they're saving material to make another rail shooter? I hope they fixed the atrocious "shake the wiimote to reload" feature. Ugh, it was a bitch about registering.

12:33p [1554] Study break: Firedrake This weekend--well, week, really--has been kind of crazy with study-study-study. Friday I didn't leave the library until nearly midnight. Yesterday I studied at home, but I had a heck of a time concentrating. I took Mom's advice to go for a walk, but it was raining and slushy and probably the grossest walk I have ever had. I felt better afterward, though. :) I came home and studied in between watching Ninja Warrior and American Ninja Warrior, which was actually really helpful; I could study very intensely in five-minute bursts, and then study sort of absently while keeping an eye on the TV, and I progressed a lot more than I had that morning. I have still got a LOT of work to do, though. >< But for this morning, I'm taking just a little of a Sunday rest, and worked on Firedrake! So Chapter Four is DONE, and posted here at painted_on_sky. Most of you voted on the poll for me to post future writing at my writing journal and just link to it here, so that is what I did. Those of you who don't currently have access can get it very easily just by friending painted_on_sky; I'll friend you back, and then you can go read Firedrake Chapter Four: A testimony against you! (It's only 3,500 words, so it won't even take up much of your time!) And now I am back to work on Chapter Five. :) current mood: excited

11:43p My feeeeeeeeeet. So, I had to work Friday which meant I missed Rescue Fire. Pity, since episode 37 is the team up with Rescue Force :D I also worked from 12:30 to 7:30 so I missed SUPER HERO TIME. But according to Arrow, Keyhole stopped working right around the time Double started? I don't know. Don't take my word for it. Finally managed to watch Rescue Fire 37 after getting distracted by manga. ( SPOILERS. ) Looks like I'll be able to watch Rescue Fire and SUPER HERO TIME next week. Unless my schedule changes :/

8:37p When you know the notes to sing . . . I've had this little curious thought niggling at the back of my mind for a while but I've been too lazy to try to track my way through "Hello Baby" to find the snatches of footage that made me wonder this in the first place. Anyone want to do the work for me and dredge up all the times HyoYeon plays with KyungSan's toy xylophone? It wasn't that often but--I was just thinking this because I think out of all the members, most people would underestimate Hyo the most in this area (I know I was underestimating her because it surprised me when I took notice; don't tell me I'm the only one!)--every time I saw Hyo with the xylophone, I was impressed how she was just banging out tunes on that little thing. It made me think about SM's training system. I've long assumed that all the members were all taught to read music (I mainly took note of this because I've been under an impression for quite a while now that H!P doesn't confer the same sort of skills on their members) and some members like TaeYeon and SooYoung attended arts-oriented high schools, but being able to read music isn't the same as being able to . . . play it. But Hyo displayed an easy knowledge of that little toy xylophone and the do-re-mi know-how it takes to sort of just play tunes like that. I'm a little envious since I'm always banging around ineptly searching for notes when I fumble around badly trying to figure out things by ear. Someone has shown her the way around the scales. LOL, what I'm trying to say is that Hyo's knowledge of music itself might have more depth and breadth than you'd give her credit for. I mean . . . she's just a dancer, right? Anyone got some more evidence to throw my way? Off-topic: I've been making an excessive amount of allusions to Sound of Music lately, lol.

From a quick scan, the comments seem to generally range from saying that they enjoyed this post, that Hyo is cute and funny (with many directed at specific pics/captions), and that people look forward to seeing more. =) I see a comment in there about Hyo and something about her handphone/cell phone during the Starbucks cafe event, but Google Translate is giving me gibberish. *sigh* /foreign language fail

11:13a Golden Disk Awards I totally dug Super Junior and SHINee's joint Michael Jackson stage: "Beat It" and "Bad." The singing maybe not so much, but the look was right. I wish SNSD had come up with something new because you can't use recycled material, really, after your company mates just put up a show like that! AG and I already sighed over the camera!fail during their performance and she and I both think that this performance lacked energy compared to the Star Dance Battle showings. But I'm sure every SNSD fan knows that SNSD managed to bag a Digital Bonsang and Daesang. Congrats, girls! (LOL, the first thing I imagined was their parents all calling each other and congratulating each other. I think that now whenever I see them win an award since SooYoung's mom said that that's what they do.) Hyo looks like she was compulsively handing out hugs in order to express her excitement. I think she smothered Fany at least three. Anyone know who that woman was at the end who came up to the stage? Jessica and Hyo, I think?
